Out in Missouri and other areas of the midwest auctions are held regularly (you can google and find them online and see exactly what dogs are being auctioned) where dogs are auctioned off by owners of puppy mills who typically have large numbers of dogs that they're breeding. Often, the dogs they don't successfully auction off are going to be euthanized. A rescue here in Utah (as well as many others) check the lists of what dogs are going to be on the auction block and go out and try to bid and win at least some of the dogs in order to rescue them either from being euthanized or being used as puppy-making-machines with minimal care or attention. This little girl was rescued by a group who went to one of these auctions and successfully bid on her.
We estimate this little girl, who we refer to as Puppy Spice (but she still needs a name) to be just about 8 to 10 months old. She's got a LOT of puppy behaviors including chewing on just about everything. You've got to watch her because she'll eat just about everything! For a tiny girl she has a very big heart. She's ready to pick up large objects and check them out. She LOVES toys and chewy things and LOVES to play. She entices the other dogs here to play with her. Some of the older ones prefer to chase her off rather than play. But she's only slightly deterred. She loves to run and is game to try just about anything. She's still suspicious of people but isn't nearly as timid or frightened as most puppy-mill dogs are.
Something happened to Puppy Spice at the puppy mill which caused her foot to be cut off. So she's missing her right rear foot which you can see in some of the photos and video.
This as yet un-named little girl (we refer to her as Puppy Spice) came from a puppy mill in Missouri so we did the works giving her a full, comprehensive blood panel before going for her spay and dental (she needed it believe it or not at her young age) as well as worming and heartworm testing. Consult on her rear right leg that is missing a foot. Total cost of all her medical work was $800.00. An interesting fact about this tiny Sheltie girl is that she often urinates by walking on just her two front feet while lifting her rear feet off the ground! We haven't see that here before.
